About Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church

Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Chipman is tied to some of the earliest Ukrainian settlement in Alberta, including families who arrived in the region in 1890. The parish history includes a first church built outside Chipman in 1900 and a second church completed in town in 1916.

The Chipman church was blessed by Bishop Nykyta Budka in 1918 and became a centre for worship, choir life, youth and women's organizations, theatre, and Ukrainian cultural activity. The old Eparchy source notes that the parish was no longer served on a regular basis at the time of that record.
