Bishop David Motiuk, Shepherd of the Edmonton Eparchy

Bishop David Motiuk serves as the spiritual shepherd of the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton. As Bishop, he guides parish life, supports priests and families, teaches the faith, encourages vocations, and helps the faithful live the Gospel through the Byzantine Catholic tradition.

His ministry is rooted in prayer, service, formation, and pastoral care for the Ukrainian Catholic faithful across Alberta.

"Shepherd the flock of God that is among you."

1 Peter 5:2

Pastoral ministry

A Shepherd Among His People

The Bishop is not distant from the life of the Church. He is present among the faithful: celebrating the Divine Liturgy, visiting parishes, supporting priests and deacons, encouraging families, and walking with the Eparchy through moments of joy, grief, challenge, and hope.

Bishop David’s leadership is both pastoral and practical. He teaches the faith, strengthens parish communities, forms future leaders, and helps the Eparchy remain faithful to Christ, to the Byzantine Catholic tradition, and to the Ukrainian spiritual heritage entrusted to our Church.

Office

The Role of the Bishop

In the Eastern Catholic tradition, the Bishop is the visible shepherd of the local Church. He teaches, sanctifies, and governs the Eparchy in communion with the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and the wider Catholic Church.

His role is not only administrative. The Bishop protects the faith, presides at the Divine Liturgy and major Eparchial celebrations, ordains and supports priests and deacons, guides pastoral priorities, encourages vocations, and cares for unity within the Eparchy.
