About Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Parish at Star-Peno

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish at Star-Peno serves the Lamont-area rural community within the Ukrainian Catholic tradition. The parish is connected with some of the earliest Ukrainian Catholic settlement in Alberta.

Heritage research identifies Star-Peno as the site of Alberta's first Ukrainian Catholic parish, formed on May 2, 1897. The present cruciform church was completed in 1927 after an earlier church burned in 1922, preserving an important story of faith, settlement, and Byzantine-Ukrainian worship in rural Alberta.
