About Ascension of Our Lord Parish

Ascension of Our Lord Parish at Derwent Farms is a rural Ukrainian Catholic parish southwest of Derwent with community prayer roots dating to 1907. The first Divine Liturgy was celebrated in the home of Ivan Hanasyk on December 1, 1908, and the church was built in 1910 and incorporated in 1911.

The parish history records early worship with Matins and Vespers led by cantor Anton Zazuliak, early Basilian clergy, and a long rural community presence. The original church burned on August 21, 1989, and many historic records were lost.
